This is a detailed section (about one-fourth) of my "Donati's Comet over Florence", a panorama of that beloved cityscape beneath the Great Comet of 1858. This artwork can be seen elsewhere in this gallery's "Astronomy and Space Exploration" collection. The image shown here emphasizes the great cathedral itself and the the ornate patterns of inlaid Tuscan marble that decorate its exterior.
